Privacy policy

Last updated: August 18th, 2026

This policy explains what information the Smith for SLC School Board campaign ("we," "the campaign") collects through this website, how we use it, and what choices you have.

Information you give us

We collect information only when you choose to give it, such as when you:

  • Sign up for email or text updates

  • Volunteer, request a yard sign, or RSVP to an event

  • Contact us with a question or comment

  • Make a contribution

Depending on the form, this may include your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and any message you write. Contribution forms also collect the information required by law, including your occupation and employer.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, this site collects limited technical information automatically, including your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you visit, and the site that referred you. This is handled by Squarespace, which hosts the site, and by any analytics tools we use. We use this in aggregate to understand which pages are useful — not to identify individual visitors.

Cookies

This site uses cookies, which are small files stored by your browser. Squarespace sets cookies necessary for the site to function and for basic analytics. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work correctly if you do. We honor Global Privacy Control signals where our tools support them.

Contributions are public records

This is important. Utah law requires candidates for local school board office to file campaign finance reports with Salt Lake County, and those reports itemize contributions by donor name and amount. Once filed, that information becomes a public record available to anyone, including journalists, opponents, and the general public. We cannot make a contribution anonymous or remove it from a filing. If you would prefer not to appear in a public filing, consider volunteering time instead — we need that at least as much.

Contributions are processed by Act Blue, not by us. We never see or store your full card number.

How we use your information

We use what you give us to:

  • Send campaign updates, event invitations, and volunteer opportunities

  • Respond to your questions

  • Organize volunteers and events

  • Process and report contributions as required by law

  • Reach voters about the campaign

Email and text messages

If you give us your email address, we may send you campaign updates. If you want to stop receiving emails from the campaign, please respond with that request and we will stop contacting you.

If you give us your phone number and agree to receive text messages, we may text you about the campaign. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts. Consent to receive texts is never a condition of contributing or volunteering.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

  • With service providers who help us run the campaign (our website host, email platform, donation processor, and texting platform), and only so they can perform that work

  • As required by law, including campaign finance filings and lawful requests from government authorities

Third-party services

This site relies on services operated by other companies, each with its own privacy policy:

  • Squarespace (hosting and analytics)

  • Act Blue (donations)

  • Google (email)

Embedded content from other sites may collect information about you as if you had visited that site directly. We do not control those practices.

Children's privacy

This is a campaign about schools, and we expect students may visit this site. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are under 13, please do not submit information through our forms. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Students of any age are welcome to read about the campaign and to contact us — but we ask that anyone under 18 get a parent or guardian's permission before signing up for emails or texts, or before volunteering.

Security and retention

We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, but no website or database is completely secure. We keep your information only as long as we need it for campaign purposes and to meet legal recordkeeping requirements.

After the election, campaign records required by law will be retained as required. Other contact information will be deleted.

Your choices

You may at any time:

  • Unsubscribe from emails

  • Reply STOP to end text messages

  • Ask us what information we have about you

  • Ask us to correct or delete your information

To make a request, contact us using the information below. We will respond within 30 days. Note that we cannot delete information already filed in a public campaign finance report.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will post the revised version here with a new date.
